Lens processing begins with molded blanks that are either finished or semi-finished using lens generating machinery. The front side of each lens is then marked for orientation, and protected with tape. The taped side is attached to a block of wax or soft metal alloy, and the lens is inserted into a lens generator or grinding machine. A special diamond wheel and grinding coolant is used for grinding curved, complex surfaces. The generator grinds the unprotected backside of the lens to match the strength and optical qualities specified by the prescription.
By effectively cooling the wheel and lens interface, and minimizing problems with plastic grinding swarf and filtration, Intersurface Dynamics lens generating coolant ensures consistent, fast, defect-free results when generating a prescription lens. In addition, Intersurface Dynamics’ water-based, oil-free coolants present fewer environmental and safety problems and facilitate lens cleaning prior to coating.
